Ariel Chesler is running to be a Civil Court Judge representing all Manhattan. He has been found “most highly qualified” to hold the position by the New York County Democratic Committee’s Independent Screening Panel for the past two years in a row, and he has been nominated by the New York County Democratic Committee to be the Democratic candidate for Civil Court Judge.
Ariel was born at Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, and after spending his first few years on the Upper West Side, was raised in Brooklyn. He now resides in the Upper East Side in a rent-stabilized building with his wife - a teacher - and two daughters, who attend a local public school.
Ariel has dedicated most of his legal career to public service working for judges at the Appellate Division, First Department, a court that resolves important criminal cases, housing matters, personal injury matters, Family Court proceedings, and which handles one of the most complex civil caseloads in the entire New York State court system.
Ariel received his B.A. from Brandeis University and graduated from Brooklyn Law School cum laude.
